Aim For Joy, Not Happiness

Being joyful is getting amped up over some sort of kick ass accomplishment. It's that rush you get from reaching a goal, accomplishing a task, or knowing you did your best. You can work for joy. I guess you could say joy is the byproduct feeling of doing something worthwhile. Do work that brings you joy.

Happiness is a feeling of pleasure, but it doesn't involve work. The danger of happiness is that you can't work to get there. There's no formula for happiness. Maybe you'll be happy and maybe you won't, and it's hard to count on finding something that's random. Lasting happiness is a myth. You're bound to be disappointed at some point, so don't shoot for something you can't keep.

If you do something worthwhile and don't feel joy, you're a grump. Don't be a grump, because that's just lame.
